Korean Skincare for Oily Skin and Large Pores

Oily skin needs hydration too. One of the biggest lessons of Korean skincare is that stripping oil away with harsh products often makes skin feel tight and look shinier a few hours later. The K-beauty approach is different: cleanse gently, exfoliate pores with BHA a few times a week, and hydrate with light, watery layers. Here is how to build that routine and which products to start with.

The routine at a glance

Step Morning Evening
Cleanse Gentle gel cleanser Cleansing oil, then gel cleanser
Exfoliate No BHA toner or pore pad, 2 to 3 times a week
Treat Niacinamide serum Niacinamide or hydrating serum
Moisturize Light gel cream Light gel cream
Protect Sunscreen No

1. Cleanse without stripping

A low-pH gel cleanser removes oil without leaving skin squeaky. The COSRX Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser is a classic. In the evening, an oil cleanser dissolves sunscreen and excess sebum; oil-based cleansers are often surprisingly well liked by oily skin. Try the ANUA Heartleaf Pore Control Cleansing Oil.

2. Exfoliate pores with BHA

BHA (salicylic acid and similar ingredients) is oil-soluble, so it works inside the pore. Use it two or three evenings a week to start.

Choose one exfoliating product, not all of them. Using several acids at once is the fastest way to irritate oily skin.

3. Treat with niacinamide

Niacinamide helps balance the look of oiliness and visible pores. The Beauty of Joseon Glow Serum : Propolis + Niacinamide and the ANUA Niacinamide 10% + TXA 4% Serum are two popular options.

4. Hydrate lightly

Dehydrated oily skin is common: shiny on the surface but tight underneath. A light hyaluronic acid serum such as the Torriden DIVE-IN Serum adds water without heaviness. Finish with a gel-textured moisturizer.

5. Never skip sunscreen

Exfoliating acids make skin more sensitive to the sun. A light Korean sunscreen fits oily skin well; look for gel or fluid textures.

Things that make pores look bigger

  • Over-cleansing and scrubbing, which can trigger more shine.
  • Heavy, occlusive creams on very oily areas.
  • Squeezing blackheads, which can stretch pores and leave marks.
  • Sun damage over time, which affects how firm skin around pores looks.

FAQ

Can you shrink pores?

Pore size is largely genetic, but keeping pores clear and skin hydrated can make them look smaller.

Should oily skin use a moisturizer?

Yes. A light gel moisturizer helps prevent the tight, dehydrated feeling that can make oiliness worse.

How often should I use BHA?

Start two or three evenings a week and increase only if your skin stays comfortable.
