Description
What it is
This is the turmeric member of Dr. Melaxin’s Peel Shot family, sold internationally as Peel Shot Exfoliating Kojic Acid Turmeric Serum (80 ml / 2.7 oz). Unlike the rice ampoules, it is applied to the face, layered where texture is rough, massaged gently and then rinsed off. The brand describes it as designed to exfoliate dead skin and excess sebum while targeting the look of dark marks and an uneven tone, using kojic acid and turmeric as its signature pair.
Key ingredients
- Kojic acid: a brightening ingredient derived from fermentation, chosen by the brand for the look of dark spots and discolouration.
- Turmeric root extract: the golden spice of Asian beauty traditions, which the brand includes for a calmer, clearer-looking complexion.
- AHA and BHA: exfoliating acids that help loosen dull surface cells and excess oil from pores.
- Niacinamide: vitamin B3, for a more even-looking tone and barrier support.
How to use
- Apply an appropriate amount over the entire face, avoiding the eye area.
- On areas with noticeable roughness or buildup, layer a little more and massage gently.
- Rinse thoroughly with water.
- Follow with toner and moisturizer, and use sunscreen the next morning.
Start with once a week and only increase if your skin stays comfortable.
Who it suits
The formula is aimed at normal, combination and oily skin types with rough texture, visible pores or lingering marks after breakouts. If your main goal is simply a smoother texture with a gentler feel, the rice-based Peel Shot formulas may be a softer place to start; our Peel Shot White Rice vs Black Rice comparison covers those.
Who should be careful
For external use only. Keep it away from the eyes and stop if irritation occurs; consult a physician if discomfort persists. Do not use it on broken, sunburned or freshly waxed skin, and avoid combining it on the same night with retinoids or other peels. Because it contains salicylic acid and other acids, people who are pregnant, those with very reactive or rosacea-prone skin, and anyone using prescription topicals should check with a health professional first. Keep out of reach of children.
Patch test first. Apply a small amount to the inner forearm or behind the ear and wait 24 to 48 hours before using it on the face. Stop using the product if redness, burning or lasting discomfort appears, and ask a pharmacist or dermatologist for advice if you have a skin condition.
