Korean Exfoliators

Exfoliators help lift away the build-up of dead skin cells on the surface, which can leave skin looking smoother, brighter and more even. Used well, they help other products spread more evenly. Used too often, they can leave skin stressed and sensitive.

K-Beauty favours gentle exfoliation: leave-on acid liquids, pre-soaked pads, peeling gels and ampoules rather than harsh scrubs. Common options include AHAs for surface texture, BHA for oily zones and pores, and PHAs for sensitive skin.

Watch for signs that you are overdoing it: tightness, stinging when you apply products that used to feel fine, redness or a shiny, almost waxy look. If you notice any of these, pause exfoliation and focus on barrier-friendly products until skin feels comfortable again. Exfoliation should support your routine, never dominate it. Counting exfoliating toners, pads and masks together helps keep the total in check.

How to choose

• Dull skin and rough texture: AHAs or peeling ampoules. See dull skin.
• Oily skin and visible pores: BHA liquids or pads. See visible pores.
• Sensitive skin: PHAs or very mild formulas, used sparingly. See sensitive skin.
• Uneven tone: gentle AHAs alongside brightening serums. See uneven skin tone.

How to use

Start once or twice a week in the evening, after cleansing, and follow the directions on the label. Avoid combining with retinoids or other acids on the same night at first.
